So here’s the story… posted at 6:28 PM
work

…of my last several posts. (Minus the hockey one)

About two weeks ago, one of the dispatchers steps down and goes back to driving. Me, being on the dispatcher hiring list that’s still good ’til February, am quite excited about this. Apparently, so are certain nameless people behind the desk, because one of them just can’t wait to tell me that an e-mail has been sent out saying I’m going to be the one to be hired.

Fast-forward one week, still no phone call. At this point, I find out that apparently, instead of hiring for the position, they’re just going to cut it due to fuel costs. Of course, I’m extremely disappointed and ticked off; however, I’m told things aren’t final yet.

Fast-forward to yesterday. I’m called into the office, and told that the position will in fact be filled, and that it is between me and another person. So now I’m somewhat excited, but also confused, because of what I had been told earlier. I’m told the final decision will be made and I will find out today.

Today: I go into work, they call me into the office. I’m not going to be offered the position. Needless to say, I am extremely pissed, but only partially because of the fact that I had been told otherwise before. The circumstances were what pissed me off the most; apparently, the one misinformed decision I’ve ever made (in extraordinary circumstances, even) was the trump card for the position being offered to the other person. Think about this: You come into work everyday and do the best you can, regardless of your mood, for 2.5 years, and instead of looking at that, it’s the one stupid mistake that determines your future. How do you feel?

The story doesn’t end on this terrible note, though. Plans are in the works to create an intermediary driver/dispatcher position, which would not only mean experience so I could fly through the next hiring process with flying colors, but could also mean I’d not even have to go through the process again anyway, since they will be picking dispatchers first from this pool, and then from the general drivers’ pool. I’m told to expect things to happen in the next month, I’ll keep you posted.

Man, that was long.
