Well, fried my first computer today. (Though it may have been that way to begin with.)
Alisa’s computer was refusing to turn on when the power switch was pressed. I went and looked inside, and made sure everything was plugged in correctly and securedly. Then, just for kicks, I decided to pull the power plug from the motherboard and reset it, just to make sure.
Several sparks and a cloud of acrid smoke later, I realized that I had forgotten to unplug the power cord from the back of the computer before taking said action.
I think I just fried the hard drive, as that’s where said cloud of smoke came from, but I’d also make a fair bet that the proc and motherboard are dead meat. I guess I won’t really know until I have time to take everything apart and survey the damage for burn marks.
Ah well, that computer was old and just a hodgepodge of parts that I had no longer needed anyway.
