comedy

A beautiful woman and a man are involved in a car accident on a snowy, cold Monday evening after work. Both of their cars are totally demolished but amazingly neither of them is hurt. God works in mysterious ways.

After they crawl out of their cars, the woman says, “So you’re a man. That’s interesting. I’m a woman. Wow, just look at our cars! There’s nothing left, but we’re unhurt. This must be a sign from God that we should meet and be friends and live together in peace for the rest of our days”.

Flattered, the man replies, “Oh yes, I agree with you completely, this must be a sign from God!”

The woman continues, “And look at this, here’s another miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle of wine didn’t break. Surely God wants us to drink this wine and celebrate our good fortune.” Then she hands the bottle to the man.

The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and excitedly drinks half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The woman takes the bottle and immediately puts the cap back on, and hands it back to the man. The man asks, “Aren’t you having any?”

The woman replies, “No. I think I’ll just wait for the police . . . ”

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Women are cleverly evil!

WordPress 2.0! posted at 7:32 AM

WordPress 2.0 was just released today. I think I’m going to wait a bit to see if there are any killer changes before I go upgrading… I’ve already done enough work on this in the past week ;)

//edit: Being the technophile I am, I decided to at least copy the database over and throw it up. Threaded comments is broken beyond repair at the moment, so until that gets fixed, we’re going to stay on 1.5.

Well, I’ve discovered that adding a doctype definition tag to the page breaks the JavaScript.

WTF mate?

It’s done! Everything works! Hooray!!

Welcome to version 4.0. A simple, imageless design with a few nice JavaScript effects thrown in. The big thing I was going for here was having the comments and comment-posting form available on the main page so there wouldn’t be any page-loading or leaving the page involved to post a comment until you hit the post button. Surprisingly, doing this (adding the comment code and comment form once for each of the ten posts on the front page) did not increase the page size a lot; only about as far as the images from the old theme would have taken up. I may play with some other WordPress API things in the coming weeks to add some spice to the sidebar (or at least change it up a bit).

I’ve tried to do what I do best and keep the design clean with straight, lightly-hinted lines and even margins. If you have any feedback, or something doesn’t work the way you think it’s supposed to, I’d like to hear about it!

I’d also like to hear if everything works correctly in IE, so I can at least put up a block page with a Firefox link instead of having people view a page that looks shitty in IE.

The comment reply code is now working correctly in Safari, but is having problems in Firefox. If anybody wants to look over it and see if they can figure out why, I’d appreciate it. The JavaScript code just the functions embedded at the top of the page.

Recap: comment reply on the main page now works in Safari. Comment reply is not working at ALL in Firefox.

family

So last night, we got a phone call that Maggie’s grandma was in the hospital. They were visiting in town, and I guess she was having trouble breathing. So, Maggie’s parents took her to the hospital, and her sister came over. We finally got a call a couple of hours later that she was home and ok. I guess they never really figured out what happened, but at least it all turned out all right. Then I had to go to bed to get to work early this morning. How hard do you think it is to sleep after something like that?

Sorry we weren’t able to do anything yesterday Meridith, we just weren’t sure what was going on and didn’t want to have you come over and then need to leave five minutes later.

OK, let’s try this again. You can at least see the comments now; I have to work out some bugs with the comment form though, so posting will not have the desired result. Just about everything else should be working as expected. What do you think? (Don’t post it yet ;))

Well, my nifty plan for the comments isn’t going to work out as well as I thought, so I’m going back to the old layout for now.

New theme! posted at 8:21 PM
uncategorized

Well, I’ve gotten far enough along that I’m going to place this as the theme. This is heavily under construction at the moment, and among other things, comments are not currently functional. I’m working on getting that all lined up, so it should be available soon.

This may look ugly from time to time, so don’t worry about it. Oh yes, and my apologies for the random inaccessibility of this site today; DreamHost is having some problems with their MySQL servers…

This theme is designed specifically for Safari. Firefox users will get everything -except- the nice little link hover effect, as Firefox does not yet support the “text-shadow” CSS property. IE users… enter at your own risk.

work

So yeah, four months after the fact, TwinVision finally got in this week and switched the electronic signs in our new busses to the ones we had originally spec’ed them with (We spec’ed them so that the color portion would be a single multi-color LED for each pixel; what we got was three seperate LEDs (red, green, blue) per pixel), and did some reprogramming of the signs. The Orange signs actually look orange now! I’ll be driving them a lot next semester when I’m doing 10-minute red/blue 4 mornings a week, so I’ll try and get some pictures so you all can see the difference.
