The new, the exciting, the not-so-exciting… posted at 7:58 AM
computers, uncategorized, work

Well, I’m in the middle of an exciting and busy couple of weeks.

As I alluded to in my previous post, Maggie and I were married on Saturday. Everything went perfectly. The music was beautiful, the homily was very touching, and the weather got better just for us! The only thing that went wrong is that the video camera tried to eat the tape, so there are a few little glitches on it… oh well. Can’t win ‘em all, right?

Today’s my last day off work, then it’s back to the grind.

Maggie and I are packing to move. We talked to Hunziker yesterday, and the people in our apartment are scheduled to check out on Friday, so hopefully we’ll be able to get in by Saturday morning and not have to mess with the whole homeless thing. We’ll find out on Friday. In the meantime, we have more crap than even I imagined to sort through and pack… very annoying.

I hope you like the new theme. I saw it while I was browsing the web and decided I rather liked it. It will be a placeholder while I develop an all-new theme over the next [insert length of time here]. I’ll be going for a more classic look with the new theme, and I may experiment with Ajax, so you can add a comment and see it on the main page without even having to reload the page. That’s a bit of a tall order, but it’ll be fun to figure it out.

Oh well, back to packing!

//edit: Whoops! Need to implement the comment threading. Silly me!
//edit2: OK, I’m sick of having to hack in threaded comments every time I want to change a theme. I’m done messing with it.
//edit3: OK, since I suck soooooo badly at just leaving stuff alone, threaded comments are back… however, it fails to detect if you’re logged in. I’ll need to fix that.
//edit4: OK, login detection works again (Why in -hell- did he leave it out in the first place?), and the comment form/list has been matched to the original theme. Now I really need to get back to packing. Really.

    Love the new design!

  • Comment by john:

I was just getting used to the old design. BTW, my site will undergo a design change and entire CMS system change in a little bit.

As in the old gray-and-white 2-column, the change to 3-column, or the color change? The old design (not including its variants) was getting pretty long in the tooth, and I was never really happy with it anyway. It was more of an exercise in layout than an actual design… I intend to actually make this new one a real design. I just happened to see this one while I was browsing and said, “Ooh, that looks really nice.”
