So, Parallels’ recent beta allows you to use a boot camp partition as its virtual machine. I messed with the partition table on my MBP awhile back and boot camp didn’t want to install, so I was kind of stuck, but I found my MBP install DVDs today, so I’m currently in the process of wiping and restoring.

Christmastime was good to me in the gift department, allowing me to finish out my desk setup:
Samsung 941BW (already featured ;))
Bose Companion 2 Series I speakers
iLap for 15″ MacBook Pro

It’s all really nice. I’m looking to buy a Microsoft Natural Mouse and a newer version of the natural keyboard before too long, to prolong the life of my wrists at least a little bit more.

The semi-annual grade report post posted at 8:22 AM
school

French 301: B+
Pretty much what I expected. She was very transparent with the grading process throughout the semester and gave regular grade reports. The only thing I was concerned about was the composition rewrite; I didn’t hand one in because it was only 2.5% of our grade and I had much bigger fish to fry at the time, but on the latest grade report it was labeled 100 points out of the 600 or so we’d had.

Music 161 (ISS): A
Duh.

Music 301: A
This is me getting credit for a class I took six years ago that mysteriously disappeared from my transcript.

Music 419A (lessons): A
I was a little concerned about this one too. My voice lessons hadn’t gone quite as well as usual, and the required concert attendance reports were one of those things that I set aside in the end-of-semester crunch.

Music 466 (music ed): A
I have to say I’m actually quite surprised about this one. My work in the class certainly wasn’t superb, and I literally threw together all three final projects for the class in 16 hours last week. I guess I’ll take them where I can get them

Music 475 (music history): B+
All I had to say when I saw this is…
NO. FUCKING. WAY.
Given my attendance record, my previous tests, how poorly I did on the listening portion of the final exam, and my expected grade on the term paper, I expected something in the C+/B- range. I have no idea how I managed to pull off a B+. I must have done a lot better on my term paper than I thought.

All in all, better than I expected, and enough to pull my grade point up off of teetering on 3.0.

What. the. hell. posted at 9:01 AM

So, Music History. We have our big term paper due today. And class decides that we want to take the listening test today instead of during Finals week. OK, that’s cool. And we have the take-home portion of the final exam due next week, on top of all the crap for other classes. So, listening tests have been moderately difficult in the past. Well, this one wasn’t. This one was damn-near impossible. At the time of the year when we’re already strapped for study time.

It’s a good thing I’m pretty much guaranteed a passing grade in the class, otherwise I might have been tempted to just write a big FUCK YOU on the exam and hand it in.
