Opponents such as Howe argue that Colbert makes a mockery of the political process.

No, sirs and madams, you are incorrect. The political process is already a mockery, with or without Stephen Colbert. He just happens to be bringing attention to this fact.

My MacBook Pro is now the proud new home of a Seagate 160GB hard drive, which will remain pristine and untouched until tomorrow’s festivities. I’m running my system off the external enclosure I bought which now houses the old drive.

Cracking a notebook open is always so stressful, but so rewarding.

ASP.NET 2.0 adventures posted at 9:19 AM

So, I’ve been working with ASP.NET 2.0/MS Visual Web Developer for the past couple of weeks. I have to say… it really is a nice solution for implementing websites, when you get used to it. The visual designer is really nice, and the WYSIWYG view is based on IE, so what you see really is what you get. The controls are powerful, and it works just like putting together a GUI for any other Windows app.

I’d love to see a framework/GUI builder like this for JSP or PHP. It might revolutionize the industry.

So, I watched most of Drew Carey’s first Price is Right episode today. Aside from a few “uncomfortable” moments (he forgot to explain the rules of the first pricing game, and then when it was time to call the next contestant to contestant’s row, he asked for the next item up for bid instead. Oops!), it was a lot of fun. He definitely enjoys himself, and it makes it fun to watch.

No Apache make Nick go crazy… posted at 2:41 PM

I’ve now decided that the root cause of all shooting rampages in the US is the use of IIS and Microsoft web technologies.

I’m getting dangerously close to just saying fuck it and going the Apache/PHP/MySQL route, regardless of the opinions of info services.

Mid-semester update posted at 12:28 PM
computers, family, school, work

Can you believe we’re at 8 weeks already?

  • I have no motivation. None. Even the knowledge that I’ll be a college graduate in 8 weeks unless something horrible happens is giving me no motivation right now.
  • For the first time in my life, I have no idea where I’ll be a year from now. Maggie is looking at jobs in the Des Moines area, around Minneapolis (we’re actually headed up there tonight for an interview tomorrow), in Wisconsin, and in Illinois. I’d like to stay around at least for a little while since I’ve got such a good thing going at work, but it all depends on how lucrative the offers are.
  • I’m trying to wrap my head around Windows web development. It’s painful. However, it may be the only option for some things we’d like to implement at work, since the City IT department appears to be hostile to anything non-Windows. Hopefully I’ll be able to implement something using MS Visual Web Developer Express and SQL Server Express.
  • Patiently sitting on my $100 Apple store credit, waiting for Leopard, hoping the Seagate 160GB notebook drives come back in stock at Newegg before then so I can snatch one up. I stupidly did not write the product key for my MSDN copy of Windows Vista on the disc, so I need to find some way to retrieve it from within Windows before I wipe/reinstall.

That’s… that’s about it.
