So, it’s been a long time since I made a post about life in general. So, here goes…

I’ve been working at Werner for just shy of two months now. I have to say I’m really enjoying it. There are certain benefits to the night shift; it’s generally pretty quiet, and I never have to fight for a good parking spot. My co-workers are a blast. The group is evolving very fast, and it’s exciting to be a part of. And, you know, the fact that I get to work with Macs while still learning about Windows in an enterprise environment is certainly a boon too.

Omaha has been treating us very well. I liked living in Ames, but there’s something to be said for having just about everything you could possibly want or need within 15 miles of where you live. I could do without the gang murder 10 blocks away though.

And the weather. I’d lived in the heart of Iowa my entire life before we moved to Omaha, but I swear I have seen more intense weather since we moved here than I did my entire life in Iowa. We had one (fortunately weak) tornado pass right over our complex, and two or three other days where there were tornadoes imminently threatening the metro area. Then last night, we had a severe thunderstorm roll through like nothing I’ve ever seen before; it looked like a hurricane out there. Thankfully we missed out on the hail; apparently in some parts of town there was pea to quarter size hail several inches deep.

We’ve taken the opportunity to update some of our old things a little bit. We finally had our new couch delivered yesterday after sitting on lawn chairs since we moved in. We’ve also upgraded our home theater a bit with a nice LCD TV and a PlayStation 3. Yesterday I ordered parts to max out my old Athlon box I built in college (”new” Athlon XP 3200+, 2GB of DDR400 ram with tight timings, and a Radeon X850 XT Platinum). Should give me a good extra year of usefulness, so I can save up to buy parts for a new machine.
